Communitity Sustainable Solutions
We had the privilege sharing our work with Prof. Joseph from Florida University and Prof. Willis Owino from JKUAT and the Team, who visited our community, specifically biodigester biogas project that they are currently supporting in Mayianat and Murupusi community lands.
The project uses a powerful combination of Opuntia (prickly pear cactus) and cow dung to generate clean biogas for cooking and lighting in manyattas — improving health, reducing firewood use, and promoting environmental conservation. 💨🔥🌵
👉 The team was very impressed with the progress and confirmed the continued support and expansion of the project to benefit even more households. This is a huge boost toward achieving energy access and positive utilisation of opuntia.
After their visit to the biogas sites, the team made a stop at our agroecology demonstration farm, where they toured our drip irrigation-supported rangeland farming and alternative livelihood models. They were happy to see how we are combining training, innovation, and climate-smart agriculture to empower local farmers. 🚜🌾💧
We thank the visiting team for their time, insights, and encouragement — and look forward to continued collaboration for a greener, cleaner, and more resilient future! 💚
